- Test your math skills by eliminating the pesky insects
- "Bee" the first to collect all 12 insects
- Swat the flies to win
Insect-themed deck of playing cards.
Includes:
- 52 insect-themed cards
- 2 jokers
- 1 instructional booklet
The Players
2-4 players ages 5 and up
The Object
Eliminate the pesky insects in your hand and have the highest score.
The Score
Add or subtract the score points on top of each card (add the green points and subtract the red points), points vary on each card.
Example
Player 1 has three cards remaining:
Player 1 has a total of 4 points (Add 5+1 = 6 then subtract 2 =4)
Player 2 has four cards remaining:
Player 2 has a total of 3 points (Add 5+1=6 then subtract 2 and 1 =3)
Player 1 wins
The Deal
Set the deck of cards in the middle of the players. The youngest player goes first then play continues clockwise.
The Game
On your turn the player begins by drawing one card and flipping it over and leaving it face up.
During a player’s turn the player can eliminate only ONE pesky insect; or they may choose not to eliminate an insect. A pesky insect can only be eliminated by using one or more power insects.
The Elimination
Add the points labeled Power Points and the Pesky Points on the top right hand side of the card.
Example (Easy Play):
Bulldog Ant Pesky Points 10 + Water Strider Power Points 60 = 70 total pts
The Bulldog Ant can now be eliminated. Place these two cards (the Bulldog Ant and the Water Strider) off to the side as they are no longer in use. After all the cards have been drawn, players will use the remaining face up cards to determine the winner. To find the highest score players will use the section labeled SCORE on the top right of the cards. If the number is green add the points, if the number is red subtract the points.
The Tip
Sometimes it is better to keep a pesky bug instead of eliminating it!
The Skill
Builds number recognition and early understanding of positive and negative numbers and problem solving.
The Players
2-4 players age 3 and up (for younger players collect pairs instead of 4 of a kind)
The Object
The goal is to be the player who collects the most sets (2 cards or 4 cards in the same group).
The Score
Deduct 1 point for each card left in a player’s hand.
The Deal
Deal 7 cards to each player. The remaining cards are then placed in the middle of the players face down. This is the “grab an insect” pile.
The Game
The player left of the dealer begins. Player 1 begins by asking any other player (ex. Player 2) for a group of insects that is in his/her hand. The group name is located on the top right of the card.
Player 2 must then hand over all the matching cards of the group of insects (ants) to Player 1. If Player 2 does not have the cards, they respond, “grab an insect!”. When a player “grabs an insect” they take the top card from the insect pile. If Player 1 gets the cards they asked for either from the insect pile or from Player 2 then they get another turn and can ask the same player or another player for an insect.
At the end of the player's turn the next player begins.
Once a player gets 2 or 4 of the same group of insects they put the cards face down in front of them on their turn. If you have a group pair placed in front of you, only another pair from the same group can be added (a single card of the same group cannot be added).
The game is over when one player runs out of cards or there are no more cards in the insect pile to draw from.
The Tip
For an additional challenge ask for the order instead of the group name.
The Skill
Builds pattern recognition and develops reading skill
The Players
Ideal for 2 players but can be played with 3. Ages 3 and up.
The Object
Collect all the cards to win.
The Deal
Divide the deck equally between players; if there are extra cards place them in the center and the first winner will keep these cards.
The Game
Each player flips the top card from their deck over at the same time with a countdown of 3-2-1 flip (players must flip the card facing away from themselves). The first player to swat the cards in the middle gets those cards. The player winning these cards turns them face down and places them under their pile of cards. If the cards are swatted and there is no match, the opponent gets the cards. Once a player is out of cards, the game is over and the player with the most cards wins.
The Swat
The Tip
Be fast and focus.
The Skill
Creates pattern recognition and quick thinking and hand eye coordination.
